UH lands 92 on C-USA list By Tricia Ene
The 2003-2004 school year has been phenomenal for several of UHis athletics programs. But not all achievements were made on the field, on the track or in the pool. A total of 92 athletes from UH earned a place on the Conference USA honor roll, named by C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky. From the 15 schools in the conference, a total of 1,719 students were recognized. In order to be a part of the prestigious group, student athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher. Six Coogs also earned C-USA Academic Medals. Student athletes with a GPA of 3.75 or above received the award. Senior Fred Day of the track team, sophomores Jennifer Dry and Sarah Fisher of the soccer team, sophomore tennis player Kami Miller, and sophomore Stacey Williams and freshman Szintia Szanto from the swimming squad all received the honor. Some find it a challenge to balance academics and athletics. "I balance good grades and sports by using my free time to study, even though I have a very busy schedule," Amanda Barksdale, a senior forward on the womenis basketball team, said.
