End is in sight for water main project Construction to affect campus through mid-August Cougar News Staff The replacement of city water mains around the UH campus, which has led to partial closures of streets in the area, will continue through the end of the summer but should be largely complete in a few weeks. Work along Cullen Boulevard and Holman Avenue should
be finished in early August, Associate Vice President for Plant Operations
David Irvin said. "At our request, (the city) delayed the segments on Cullen
and Entrance 14 until after UH and high school graduations."
The replacement of city water mains will continue around campus through September, though most major work on Cullen Boulevard and Holman and Wheeler avenues is expected to wrap up by mid-August. Manuel Rearte/The Daily Cougar Irvin said the bulk of the construction should be along Cullen and Holman with minor work on Wheeler Avenue, but he said major lane closures are not expected on Wheeler. The project is replacing old clay water mains with high-density, strong plastic pipes. The first part of the work began in December along University Drive. Lane closures should be over by mid-August, Irvin
said, and completion of the entire project is expected in September.
