Prof, student honored for tech careers Cougar News Services A UH student and a professor were honored earlier this month for their work in technology with awards recognizing the changing role of women in research fields. Susan Hardin, an associate professor of biology and biochemistry, was named one of the "Top Houston Women in Technology" by the Association for Women in Computing. Hardin co-founded VisiGen Biotechnologies Inc. with four other UH professors; the company's work led to technology that could map the genetic code in people's DNA in less than 24 hours. Mehnaz Bhayani, a computer science senior, won the $7,000 Kathi Bowles Scholarship, given to women who are pursuing careers in technology-related fields. The pair was honored at the AWC's gala June 12.
