Finalist is named for UHV head Cougar News Services Tim Hudson, provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Southern Mississippi, has been named finalist for the presidency of UH-Victoria. "(Hudson) brings an impressive experience in higher education and a strong commitment to developing effective community partnerships that will benefit the university and the Victoria area," UH System Chancellor Jay Gogue said in a release Friday. Hudson, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., was USM's associate vice president for administrative affairs and dean of the College of International and Continuing Education before becoming provost. "I hope to build strong alliances between the campus and the community so that, together, we can broaden education's window of opportunity," Hudson said. Hudson was chosen from among nearly 80 candidates identified during a national search for the UHV president. Former president Karen Haynes left the university in February to lead California State University, San Marcos and UHV Provost Don N. Smith has been filling the position on an interim basis since then. Pending confirmation by the UHS Board of Regents,
Hudson will become president Sept. 1.
