Mydoom e-mail worm returns Cougar News Services A message that seems to warn UH e-mail users of problems with their accounts is the result of the Mydoom computer virus, which first appeared on campus in January and returned this week in a new form. The e-mail triggered by the virus, which appears to be from the University, tells recipients, "We have found that your account was used to send a large amount of junk mail messages during this week. ... Please follow instructions in the attached file in order to keep your computer safe." The attached file, if opened, will help propagate the Mydoom e-mail worm, which can infect computers running Microsoft Windows. Although some Mydoom-triggered messages have been received by UH users, Information Technology has not reported any on-campus infections. To protect computers against the virus, IT recommends keeping antivirus software up-to-date and never opening unsolicited or unexpected e-mail attachments. For more information, and to download updated antivirus
software, visit www.uh.edu/infotech.
