'OK' brings a breath of fresh air to local fans

Many artists will release new albums in the new year, but one UH alumnus, Jason Consolacion, will meet the 2003 deadline by one day. The local artist will celebrate his latest album, Everything's, with a CD release party Dec. 30 at Ovations, 2536 Times Blvd. in the Rice Village.

Consolacion described his music as "something that everyone can enjoy, no matter how old you are or what you are into." He said it is pop music with the sensibilities of jazz and blues.

"I basically take a rock influence and make the presence of jazz and blues felt in there," Concolacion said.

Concolacionis unique pop stylings have been a staple in the Houston music scene, which is overloaded with an all-too-clichéd pop-punk sound.

"With my stuff itis a mixture, because Iim really serious and dedicated while still having a good time. I talk about subjects that everyday people can relate to," Consolacion said.

"Most of my lyrics are about relationships, but I concentrate on topics that are hard to talk about -- I try to bring those points out. You live and learn. Sometimes the ride is fun, and sometimes you could use a barf bag or two. It happens to everybody."

The new album follows Consolacionis first release, Uncertain Air, which featured three songs that will appear on Everthingis OK. Consolacion employed new musicians for this album and said they give the album a different flavor.

"Thereis different elements that could be dangerous, but itis really good at the same time," he said.

His backup band, Citizens for Boysenberry Jam, will join him for the release party and play songs from both albums as well as the cover material Consolacionis fans have always enjoyed. Fans will be able to purchase Everythingis OK and Uncertain Air at the show. The celebration starts at 7:30 p.m. with three opening acts. There is a $10 cover charge.
