Trite 'Polly' dethrones
the 'King'
Well, folks, it's over. The greatest trilogy of our time,
and possibly of all time, has come to a crashing, wrenching close. The
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King stood on top of the box office
from the day it was released until this very weekend, when it was dethroned
as the No. 1 film at U.S. box offices.
DiFranco's lyrics educate her
fans
People will either love or hate Ani Difranco's new album
Educated Guess, which hits stores today. Her music can best be described
as abstract poetry set to an acoustic background. DiFranco actually takes
risks and creates art with her music.
'Cellar Door' leads to folk rock
bottom
Nearly 60 years ago, accomplished writers were asked
which phrases they considered the most beautiful in the English language.
"Cellar door" was said to have the most musical combination of sounds in
the entire language. Songwriter John Vanderslice took a cue from the experts
and named his new record after the perfect phrase -- Cellar Door. But pleasing
sounds are scarcely found in the 12 tracks of whiny, overly dramatic folk
rock.
Theron beautifies 'Monster's beast
Just when the art of method acting looked to be
out of fashion, Charlize Theron charges onto the screen with Monster, creating
one of the most intriguing characters in recent memory.
