2004 brings opera
to Moores
Have you ever held the morbid curiosity of trying to
discover why a woman would wait in a wedding dress for more than half a
century for someone? Have you ever explored the depth of possible vocations
that you might choose to make someone love you? The Moores School of Music
begins its spring semester with two critically acclaimed operas. Miss Havisham's
Fire and La Finta Giardiniera will be performed from Feb. 5 to 9 at the
Moores Opera House.
Big game brings big shows to town
This week when the super celebrities roll around town
in their super stretch limousines heading to any number of the super parties
that you probably can't afford to attend head downtown to the what will
be the longest and cheapest bash of them all -- a Super Bash, that is.
Beginning Wednesday, 50 bands (most of which probably can't afford a ticket
to the game) will play in a five-day span downtown at the corner of Texas
Avenue and Austin Street.
Ceremonies' results don't reflect
quality
Who cares about the Golden Globes or the coming Academy
Awards? Does anyone else find these ceremonies filled with sleazy marketing
ploys? Is your favorite movie always left out?
Mushroomhead fails to relive success
What words can be used to describe Mushroomhead's latest
attempt at achieving greatness? Well, a few words spring to mind: juvenile,
immature, repetitive and lacking substance.
Canadian boys play hard screamo
Call the sound screamo. Call the bands screamies. Or,
if you're a purist who hates even the emocore label, you can always resort
back to "melodic hardcore" when trying to break the genre down. At the
end of the show though, none of this will matter. Because out here on the
fringes of what MTV2 dares to play is some of the most exciting and original
rock music being heard in clubs today.
