OPINION
Gender selection
an affront to God, nature
Mom always told me she wanted to have a girl. But instead
she got me. She was never disappointed that I was never going to be a Natalie
Hoang because she knows there are uncontrollable things we all have to
accept. Sometimes it rains on the day after you wash your car. Dangerously
high temperatures can make a visit to the zoo a hazard. Frigid weather
can make a camping trip close to unbearable. Some things just happen.
Hubble is NASA's best exploration
option
The Hubble Space Telescope has been the National Aeronautics
and Space Administrationis bright spot in the exploration of space. Now
it is being canceled because of Bushis new call to put a manned base on
the moon and conduct a manned mission to Mars. But the HST is a treasure
that is gathering more new data about the universe than a thousand manned
missions to Mars could ever dig up. The HST, a jointly funded effort by
NASA and the European Space Agency, is the worldis single most valuable
space asset for pure scientific knowledge concerning the overall nature
of the universe.
War is, and will remain, inevitable
Since the United States established its independence
from England in 1776, it has fought a total of 12 major conflicts, exposing
every generation since to at least one of these altercations. How could
an event as horrific as war occur an average of every 20 years, with no
sign of an end to this phenomenon in sight? Can we establish a new paradigm
for society, one that does not sacrifice millions of lives to the sword?
Probably not.
