UH ends short stint on AP poll by Christian Schmidt
After a decade of absence from The Associated Press Top 25 Poll, The UH womenis basketball team had a short stay in its return -- just one week. After being ranked No. 25 in the Jan. 19 edition of the poll, Houston (15-3 overall, 4-1 in Conference USA) dropped out of the Mondayis poll. The Lady Cougars were eighth among teams receiving votes that did not make the most recent poll.
Senior guard Chandi Jones continues to carry the Lady Cougars on her shoulders, but her supporting cast is as strong as it has been in her four years on the team. Pin Lim The Daily Cougar
Houston is still in the latest coachesi poll, coming in this week at the
No. 24 spot. Thatis down two places from last weekis No. 22 ranking. Houston
has been ranked in the last three edition of the coachesi poll.
Houston went 1-1 last week, beating Cincinnati 60-56 on Friday before falling to Louisville 77-75 in overtime. The Lady Cougars tied a school record for most consecutive wins with 10 before Sundayis loss. Even with the loss Sunday, Houston is still on track to earn the best record in the programis history. Two years ago, the team went 26-8 and lost in the championship game of the Womenis National Invitation Tournament. Fellow Conference USA members DePaul and Texas Christian are both ranked in the AP poll, the Lady Blue Demons at No. 13 and the Lady Horned Frogs at No. 21. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
