Cougars acted in self-defense

I realize that the Opinion section in The Daily Cougar is for opinions, but what Bradley David Williams wrote in Tuesday's edition was ignorant. In "Cougar football must be held accountable," he attacked the University while writing what seemed to be a travel brochure for the state of Hawaii.

Williams described himself as "unapologetic and uninterested in football" which is probably why he and people like him focused on the fight and not the game. Williams accused UH officials of sticking their heads in the sand, but two weeks after the game, Athletics Director Dave Maggard, head coach Art Briles and Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky stated that UH and the conference would look at the tapes and hand out disciplinary action.

Williams also left out in his admiration of Hawaii that the "traditionally peaceful" people of Hawaii came out of the stands to attack Houston players. He also left out that Hawaii had been involved in a post-game brawl with Cincinnati. Alabama also complained of aggression displayed by Hawaii fans and players. ESPN and Houston media both reported weeks ago that Houston will discipline the players involved, but the overall picture was that Cougar players acted in self-defense.

The Cougars are hiding nothing and the reason no one else is bringing it up is because it is over; it is old news. We prefer to talk about the future success of Cougar football.
