Sports UH keeps racking up honors Cougar Sports Staff Chandi Jones won another award, Brett Cooley knocked around of couple of heaters and the Cougar softball team tallied another one in the wins column. Talk about weekend warriors. Jones was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week, averaging 20.5 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 steals per game last week. With 2,490 career points, including 21 in a 73-65 win over East Carolina on Sunday, the senior guard also surpassed Memphis' Tamika Whitmore's C-USA scoring record. Cooley, who went 4-4 in the Cougars' season debut at the Minute Maid Park College Classic this weekend, was named C-USA Hitter of the Week. The senior pitcher and designated hitter leads the team with a .500 batting average. The UH softball team is also off to a solid start, improving to 6-3 by splitting a doubleheader Sunday, the final day of the Hilton Plaza Cougar Invitational. The Lady Cougars' Jenny Johnson gave up a game-winning home run to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Jennifer Golden in the 11th inning to end the game at 4-3. Earlier in the day, UH defeated Louisiana-Monroe 2-1. Golf sputters It was déjà vu for UH when the Cougars tied with Hawaii on Sunday at the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Kona, Hawaii. The only differences were that it was the golf team (and not the football team), and it didn't have a chance to break a tie. Instead, the UH golf team finished tied for last place (20th overall) with the Hawaii Warriors. The field was one of the most difficult UH will face all season. Houston senior Zach Mowbray continued to post solid individual numbers, scoring a 1-under-par 71 for the second consecutive day. He finished the tournament in a tie for 24th place with a 2-under-par 214. The Cougars return to the green Monday for the Southeastern Louisiana/Beau Chene Intercollegiate in Hammond, La.
