Coogs try to stay hot

By Bridget Brown
The Daily Cougar

Following the UH softball team's doubleheader sweep against No. 15 Texas A&M on Wednesday, the team will host the Crowne Plaza Classic this weekend at the Cougar Softball Complex. On Friday the squad will take on Nebraska and Centenary College, and on Saturday Indiana and Florida State.

After a stretch of impressive play, the team's record going into the tournament is 8-3. The first game of the Aggie doubleheader marked coach Kyla Holas' 100th win, and a huge rally behind a two-run homerun by junior Kim Nesloney in the seventh inning set the score at 6-5. In the first game, senior Jenny Johnson threw a 3-0 shutout.

This weekend, the Cougars will meet Nebraska at 5 p.m. Nationally ranked at No. 12, The Huskers should be the toughest opponent the Cougars face Friday.

After Nebraska, the Coogs will play Centenary College, whose record going into the tournament is 6-4.

UH is set to face Florida at 5 p.m. The Gators just improved their record to 8-1 after a game against University of Southern Florida, and also won the Wilson Invitational with a 3-0 record.

The Cougars will have their nightcap at 7 p.m. Saturday against Indiana (2-3).
