Dulin remains editor in chief 

SPC unanimously re-elects The Daily Cougar's head honcho Thursday

Members of the Student Publications Committee unanimously re-elected Matt Dulin editor in chief of The Daily Cougar on Thursday.

Dulin, a junior communication major, has been the paper's editor since the summer.

He said Thursday he hopes to build on changes he's made to the Cougar during his next term, but his main goal is to keep the campus community interested in the newspaper.

"If I can't do that in one more term, I should just stop and retire and go to Florida," Dulin said.

He gave his staff credit for making the paper what it is, saying staff members were responsible for "all the successes I've had in the past two semesters."

The other applicant for editor was Richard Whitrock, the Cougar's opinion editor, who drew concern from SPC members because he had never taken a communication class.

Among Whitrock's proposals for the paper were a "new management style" and requiring all members of the Cougar staff to also work for the <I>Houstonian<P> yearbook.

The SPC, which oversees the Cougar and the yearbook, elects editors in chief for the newspaper every semester and for the <I>Houstonian<P> each spring. Applications for all positions on the spring Cougar staff are available from Room 160, Communication Building.
