Parking permit trade offered for closed lot Students who park in Lot 1A can exchange for cheaper permits Cougar News Staff Students used to parking in Lot 1A have an option to get at least part of the value of their parking permits back since much of the lot was closed during the winter break for construction of a campus parking garage. Commuters displaced by the closure may trade in their parking permits for Economy or Economy Plus permits before Feb. 10, according to an e-mail from Vice President for Student Affairs Elwyn C. Lee and Vice President for Administration and Finance John Rudley. The parking permits will be exchanged on a pro-rated share of the cost difference between permits, the e-mail said. Students may exchange their permits in the Parking and Transportation office, Room 1, E. Cullen, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The University has added parking spaces in Parking Lot 4A at Calhoun Road and Wheeler Avenue and in Lot 9C at Wheeler and Cullen Boulevard to make up for the 700 spaces lost to construction in Lot 1A, Lee and Rudley said in their e-mail message. The entrance to Lot 1A from Entrance 1 has been closed and an alternate entrance has been opened onto Calhoun Road. Personnel will be on hand the next few days to help deal with parking confusion. The 1,500-space parking garage is expected to open in Spring 2006, Associate Vice President for Plant Operations David Irvin told The Daily Cougar in December. About 1,000 of the spaces will be reserved for students; the rest will be for faculty, staff and visitors. For more information on parking, visit www.uh.edu/plantops/pts.html
