Lady Cougar win over USF keeps streak alive

The Lady Cougars basketball team added one more win to its streak, taming the South Florida Bulls 64-45 Sunday at Hofheinz Pavilion in front of 601 fans in attendance.

Houston continues to stand undefeated in Conference USA play, improving to 4-0 and also remain undefeated at home this season.

With less than 11 minutes left in the first half, the Lady Cougars led by 10 points after a senior center Kiki Harris free throw. Houston's lead grew to 18 points in the half and went into the locker room with a 33-17 lead.


The Lady Cougars breezed past the South Florida Bulls with a 65-45 win on Sunday at the Hofheinz Pavilion moving their win streak up to four.

In the second half, the Lady Cougars had a 22-point lead keeping the momentum on their side never allowing their lead to fall below double digits. Houston finished the game on an 8-0 run and a last second jumper by senior center Sancho Lyttle. 

The Lady Cougars outrebounded the Bulls by a 54-28 margin including a 17-11 offensive board advantage. 

However, Houston's flaw in the game was the team's costly 24 turnovers. 

UH finished shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent in the three-point range. 

At the free throw line, the Lady Cougars shot 50 percent.

Lyttle finished with her 13th double-double on the season and eighth in a row after scoring 33 points and pulling 20 rebounds. 

Her 15 defensive and five offensive rebounds were a career high and school record.

Senior Crystal Simpson finished with 10 points followed by Harris with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Cougars go on the road for their next two games for further C-USA play facing Cincinnati on Friday then Louisville on Sunday. 

Their next home game will be against Texas Christian on Jan. 30.
