Cougar Sports Services

In a 2005 Conference USA preseason poll, the Cougar baseball squad was picked to finish fifth with one player chosen to the Preseason All Conference Team.

After batting a .308 average with 23 RBIs and 17 stolen bases, junior outfielder Travis Tully was the Cougar selected to the preseason team. Tully, who was also named into the All C-USA Second Team last season, started all 59 games with a 20-game hit streak midway through the season, making him the fourth highest Cougar with such a streak.

The Cougar baseball squad will be coming into the season picked to finish 5th in Conference USA after a vote from all 12 coaches.

Teams ranked below the Cougars were South Florida, Louisville, Alabama-Birmingham, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Memphis and Saint Louis respectively.

In a unanimous vote by C-USA coaches, the Tulane Green Wave was picked as the top preseason team followed by Texas Christian. The East Carolina Pirates and Southern Miss were selected third and fourth respectively.

Preseason Player of the Year went to Green Wave outfielder/pitcher Brian Bogusevic after batting 68 RBIs and 4 triples and ranked second in homeruns (10) among the Tulane baseball squad. On the mound, he lead the team in innings pitched (111.2) and strikeouts (84) and tied for most wins with nine.

Houston opens its season on Feb. 11 when they take part in the Minute Maid Classic where they'll face Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.
