News Blaffer's multimedia exhibit garners national recognition Cougar News Services UH's Blaffer Gallery got international acclaim for its exhibit Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration, which was shown in 2003. The International Association of Art Critics gave the show, organized by Blaffer Director Terrie Sultan, second place for Best Monographic Show Nationally. The exhibit was a 30-year survey of Close's printmaking career, including silkscreens, woodblock prints, etchings and lithography. "It is very gratifying to receive recognition from such a highly regarded and discerning group of critics and art writers," Sultan said in a release. Chuck Close Prints opened at the Blaffer in September 2003 and is now on display at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Its 10-museum tour will be finished in 2007, but may be extended through 2008. Sultan has organized more than 40 exhibitions and publications in her career. Another of her shows, Bob Knox: Non-Fiction Painting, won the International Association of Art Critics/USA award for Best Show of an Emerging/Under-known Artist last year. The Blaffer Gallery, UH's art museum, was founded in 1973 and shows several traveling and self-produced exhibits each year featuring works from well-known, new and student artists.
