Sports After four weeks, 2005 is already memorable Pro Sports Fan Arica Jefferson So much has transpired in the last four weeks of the new year. We celebrated another Martin Luther King Day and the legacy he left behind. We saw President Bush's inauguration for a second term. Poor Ashlee Simpson got booed right into 2005 when she performed during the Orange Bowl halftime show. And just Sunday, one of America's most loved comedians, Johnny Carson, 79, died. The sports world has also had a relatively interesting start to 2005. There was the Randy Moss booty bump against the goal post and imaginary moon to Packers fans at Lambeau Field after a touchdown reception when the Minnesota Vikings played Green Bay. There were the two missed field goals so perfectly erroneous by New York Jets kicker Jeff Reed. Now Terrell Owens, aka TO, said he is coming back for Super Bowl XXXIX. Good old TO made comments Tuesday about his change in spirituality and that he has healed to a level that not even his doctors are aware. But the truth of the matter is, TO, who is an All-Pro receiver, still has a broken leg and an ankle with screws in it and will not get clearance from his doctor to play in the Super Bowl. And while people discuss what "Mr. Personality" is going to do, it cannot be forgotten that if the New England Patriots take a win in Super Bowl XXXIX, they will make history, winning three games in four years. It will be something the Packers of the 1960s, the San Francisco 49ers of the 1980s or the Cowboys of the 1990s did not accomplish. The main event that hits closer to home is the re-signing of Roger Clemens by the Houston Astros. Clemens, who is a seven-time winner of the Cy Young award, now has the highest salary for a pitcher on a one-year contract in Major League Baseball history, with the Astros shelling out $18 million for him to stay. There are a few Carlos Beltran fans who are upset about the amount of money the Astros are paying this old timer. All I can say is don't hate the player, hate the game. Let's just hope the players do a better job than
they did in 2004 -- you can chose the sport.
