The Cougar Men's and Women's Track and Field teams had strong performances over the weekend at the Houston Indoor Invitational in Yeoman Field House. 13 different schools participated in the event including some athletes competing unattached that ran out of their eligibility. The Cougars competed against Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Sam Houston State, Lamar, McNeese State, Nichols State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Texas Lutheran, Mississippi College and Prairie View A&M.

Day 1 saw Houston senior Krystal Ward take the lead in the third event of the pentathlon, the high jump, where she cleared a height of 5-foot 10-inches, besting the next closest height by 4.75''. She lost that lead, however, to UTSA's Ryanne Dupree whose high jump score was 3,942.

Texas dominated the men's first day heptathlon with Trey Hardee and Donovan Kilmartin both racking in scores of 3,159 and 3,235 respectively. Jarrett Flax and Nick Garza of Houston finished in eighth and ninth places with scores of 2,674 and 2,655 respectively.

Both the men's and women's teams had very strong performances on Saturday, Day 2 of the event with each team finishing at least one athlete in the top-three of every event in which they competed.

The Cougars came away with a total of 10 first place finishes and 25 top-three performances at the Invitational. On Feb. 5, the Cougars will play host to the Houston Indoor Classic.
