News Bill may let student regents cast votes Cougar News Services Every Texas public university system's board of regents would have a voting student member under a bill being drafted in Austin. State Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, asked for the bill, saying his own experience as a Texas State University regent in the 1980s showed him the value of student input. "I believe it would have been helpful to me then to have the (student) viewpoint at meetings" Wentworth told The University of Texas' Daily Texan newspaper. UT's student government has been meeting with Wentworth to support the bill. UT doesn't have a student on its board of regents. Though the UH System does, its student regent may not vote. Thirty-nine states have university systems with student regents. News story 3 Send comments to dcnews@mail.uh.edu |
