Cougar earns Player of Week

Cougar Sports Services

After strong performances in the opening of the 2005 season including a 6-0 record, senior Biljana Dimovska was honored Wednesday as Conference USA Tennis Player of the Week.

This marks her first player of the week award in her collegiate career, however she was recognized for her strong performances last year, when she was named to the All-C-USA second team. 

Last week, the Cougars were on the road facing Furman on Friday and Georgia State on Sunday, and the squad suffered a tough loss to the Paladin then plowed over the Panthers.

In Friday's match, Dimovska, partnered with junior Yolandi Terblanche at the No. 2 spot, took an easy 8-2 win over Furman's Jacqueline Eckert and Marti Morris.

In singles play, the C-USA Player of the Week was the only Cougar to take a win defeating Southland Conference's Player of the Year Neill Hagood with easy 6-4, 6-4 sets.

Sunday's contest saw Dimovska and Terblanche once again taking an 8-2 win over GSU's Annemaria Fargacs and Anne Breiholtz. Dimovska went on defeat Fargacs, a two-time First Team All-Atlantic Conference player, with scores of 7-6, 6-2.

The Cougars now stand with a 2-1 record and will return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday at home in the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts.
