New editor in chief to head yearbook

Applications for Cougar editor in chief due in Student Publications Business Office April 7

Cougar News Staff

The Student Publications Committee elected Stephanie Pendergraft, a communication sophomore, editor in chief of the 2006-07 Houstonian yearbook Thursday.

Pendergraft, the managing editor of the 2005-06 annual, said she'll work to improve organization among her staff and will also ensure it begins work at least a month before the beginning of the fall semester.

She plans to help staff members keep up with their work through regular meetings and calendars.

"It's very easy to get overwhelmed," Pendergraft said.

Pendergraft said she became interested in yearbook work when she was on the staff of the Klein High School Bearkat.

As editor of the Houstonian, Pendergraft promises to make an effort at retaining her staff.

"If you get on top of people … people are not going to walk out on you," she said.

Pendergraft was elected by general consent of the committee.

Director of Student Publicatons Richard Cigler commended the current Houstonian editor, Jenna McManus, and Pendergraft for their work with the yearbook.

"I want to credit (McManus) and (Pendergraft) both for really resurrecting the yearbook … and I can't take my hat off enough to them for it," Cigler said.

In other business, Cigler said applications for the summer and fall 2006 The Daily Cougar editor in chief are due April 7 by 2 p.m.

Applications are available in the Department of Student Publications Business Office, Room 151C, Communication Building (building 506 on the campus map).

The SPC also approved a revised version of The Daily Cougar policy and ethics handbook.

The SPC will next meet at 4 p.m. April 13 in the University Center Satellite Allison Suite, room 110.
