Panel to discuss closing of gaps

Cougar News Staff

Prominent Texas education advocates will discuss closing the gaps in the education system when they meet for the Fourth Biennial Convocation on Public Education, which includes a panel discussion led by two of the state’s high-ranking education officials.

Raymund Paredes, Texas commissioner of higher education, and Shirley J. Neeley, Texas commissioner of Education, are slated to be part of the discussion, "A Conversation on the Education Pipeline," during the "Closing the Gaps by Closing the Gaps: Successful Transitions from Preschool to College" convocation, which will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the University Center.

Harold "Bud" Hodgkinson, director of the Center for Demographic Policy at the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C., is the event’s keynote speaker. He will deliver a speech titled "Demographic Trends that Call for Change."

Educators from preschool to college, business and community leaders, parents and students are encouraged to attend the event. Guests will also have the opportunity to engage in various learning sessions that explore preschool to college issues experienced by educators.

There is a $40 registration fee to attend the convocation. The fee can be paid at the door.

For more information or to register for the event, visit the American Leadership Forum’s Web site at www.alfhouston.com.
