News The hunt is on for new Cougar 'leader' Cougar News Staff The deadline to apply for editor in chief of The Daily Cougar for the Summer and Fall semesters is April 7. Applications are available for students in Room 151 the Communication Building. Applicants for editor must be juniors or seniors, be in good academic standing and have taken basic journalism courses, among other requirements. Candidates also must have worked on the newspaper staff for one semester. Students who do no meet the requirements, but still want to apply, can ask the Student Publications Committee for a waiver. The committee, made up of student and faculty representatives, votes to elect the new editor. "Being an editor is a great experience," Zach Lee, the current editor in chief of The Daily Cougar said. "You get to learn not only about running a newspaper, but also about managing people." Students interested in the position can apply regardless of their major. "We’re not looking for a specific type of person, just a leader," Lee said. "We need someone who is interested in helping The Daily Cougar evolve into a better newspaper." The editor in chief is also responsible for hiring section editors for the following semester. Candidates for editor are allowed to make a statement to the SPC, after which committee members may ask them questions. There will be a time set aside for public comment before the committee members elect the editor. The editor election will be held at 4 p.m. April
13 in the Allison Room of the UC Satellite.
