News Tour brings Lennon to UH Educational bus spreads passion for music to students by KELLY J. SANTOS
The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, a non-profit video production and audio recording studio on wheels, will make a stop at the University's School of Communication Tuesday. Free tours and demonstrations of the bus will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bus will be parked between the Communication Building and the Fine Arts Building. There will be a limited number of complimentary gift bags containing issues of Guitar Player magazine and Maxell batteries available to visitors touring the bus. Created in 1998 and dedicated to spreading John Lennon's passion for music to students all around the country, the bus includes both a front studio and a back studio loaded with state-of-the-art musical instruments, computer hardware and software and recording devices. Multi-media projects are created in the front studio. Both the audio and visual components of the studio will be demonstrated and students can participate in the recording and editing of original material. The back studio of the bus serves as a more traditional set-up for bands and houses a full range of instruments, including keyboards, drums and guitars. With a public address system on board, there's a chance to hear performances outside of the bus's two interactive studios. PowerMac G5's with high definition cinema displays, Final Cut Studio, GarageBand 2, Adobe Creative Suite and turntables are just some of the equipment and software available on the bus. Corporate sponsors including Maxell Corporation, Roland, Apple Computer Inc. and the International Music Products Association, NAMM, donate the gear featured on the bus. The first 100 bus guests will receive free T-shirts and iTunes credits. The educational bus has also hosted famous acts including
the Black Eyed Peas, Carlos Santana and the Veronicas.
