Texas State is coming off a three-game sweep over Texas-San Antonio in which the Bobcats improved their record to 24-12 and 11-1 in Southland Conference. In Game 3, Texas State gained a come-from-behind 7-5 win, while tallying up seven runs on 14 hits. UTSA (16-11, 10-5) took a 3-0 lead in the first. Freshman Tamara Keller led the scoring with a double, while junior outfielder Amy Krueger, senior outfielder Amy Hromadka, senior first baseman Kristin Gunter and senior pitcher/first baseman Katie Ann Trahan registered singles. Trahan's two-out two-RBI single increased the lead to 5-3 in the fourth. Hromadka and Gunter added the two final runs in the sixth and junior Sarah Lancour took care of UTSA's final two batters. During Saturday's doubleheader, Texas State fought hard to earn 7-6 and 3-1 wins. Game 1 saw the Bobcats overcome a 5-0 deficit thanks to freshman Ryan Kos' two-out home run. Balls continued to fly over the fence as Gunter sent two two-run homers one in the fifth and one in the sixth in order to give the Bobcats the come-from-behind win. Game 2 remained scoreless until the last inning when Texas State took a 1-0 lead after sophomore Ashton Peter's sacrifice fly. UTSA fought back in the bottom of the seventh to force an extra inning. During the eighth, Newton broke the tie with her second home run of the season, while Keller and Koop added the final run of the 3-2 challenge. Gunter was awarded her third SLC Softball Hitter of the Week on Monday after her 5-for-8 (.625) weekend performance. The Bobcats are led by Gunter with a .378 average, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, and 67 total bases. In the circle, Trahan leads with a 1.39 ERA and a 14-6 record, while teammate Lancour holds a 10-6 record and 2.15 ERA. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
