A memorial service to honor 11 members of the UH community who died last year will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday for students, faculty and staff at the chapel in the A.D. Bruce Religion center.

"The service honors all members of the UH community; from dean to janitor. They will all be remembered," the Rev. Jack Shepard of United Campus Ministry of Greater Houston said.

Representatives from different religious organizations will speak at the service.

"It's an interdenominational service. So there will be reading from scriptures but there will also be other representatives, so all are included," Shepard said.

The service should last no longer than 30 minutes and will include a reading of the names.

The name reading will be followed by prayer and a lighting of candles.

"This (memorial service) has gone on for a number of years," the Rev. Guinn Blackwell-Eagleson of United Campus Ministry of Greater Houston said. "It lets families and friends come together and remember, honor and say prayers for their loved ones."

Students are encouraged to come be a part of the service, Blackwell-Eagleson said.

"Everyone is welcome," Blackwell-Eagleson said. "To have other members of the community come pay their respects helps because families see that their loved ones are being missed and honored."
