Sports UH will take field after long rest period Arkansas-Pine Bluff on tap for double-header Sunday morning and afternoon in Houston by Lourdes Castillo
College teams usually aren't ready to play a three-game series and two back-to-back doubleheaders with only a day of rest in between. There is no doubt a good night's sleep at home and more than 24 hours rest is needed in order for the athletes to perform their best. On Sunday, the UH softball team will have no excuse to not add a couple of wins to its 26-14 record as it will get plenty of rest and practice before it welcomes Arkansas-Pine Bluff for games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Cougars are coming off two losses (3-2, 6-3) against Texas-San Antonio on Tuesday, along with a come-from-behind 9-8 win and a 5-4 loss against Texas State on Wednesday. During the win, freshman catcher Elaina Nordstrom went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and one run, including a two-run homer. Nordstrom's three-run double sealed the victory. Before facing the Cougars, the Golden Lions will take on Texas Southern today and Saturday. UAPB's game against Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday was cancelled. The Golden Lions' last competition was against Prairie View A&M, when UAPB claimed 2-1, 11-0 and 6-0 losses and an 8-1 win. During the win, UAPB's Markia Herron finished 2-for-4 while registering two RBIs and a run. The Golden Lions' Starla Wynn, Jona Howell and Amber Cummings added one run each, while Nicole Saenz and Cynequa Haynie tallied two runs apiece in route to the 8-1 victory. Howell was awarded the win after allowing five hits and striking out two. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
