Stephen Pinchback/The Daily Cougar Marshall took a 1-0 lead in the first after senior Amanda Williams' homer over the right centerfield fence. Marshall added another run on a Cougar throwing. On Friday, freshman catcher/ third baseman Christa Raley propelled the Cougars to a 3-0 win in Game 1 going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Junior third baseman Laura Durham reached second base off a double down the left field line in the second. Adams' ground ball moved Durham to third and was brought home by freshman UTL/catcher Haley Valis' RBI-single to left field. Raley's RBI-single in the fifth put the final run on the board that gave the Cougars the win and snapped Marshall's eight-game home winning steak. Game 2 saw freshman catcher Elaina Nordstrom and Gonzalez register two runs apiece in route to a 6-2 win. The Thundering Herd took an early 1-0 lead in the second, but the Cougars responded right back scoring two in the third. UH continued the scoring in the fifth as it sent 10 batters to the plate. With the bases loaded, Adams came across on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 3-1. With the bases loaded once again, Nordstrom plated Gonzalez and Jessica Valis. Up 5-1, Shamblin added a RBI-singe to give UH a fairly comfortable 6-1 lead. In an attempt to get a comeback-from-behind win, Marshall added a run in the sixth, but was shutdown by Shamblin as she fired two innings of scoreless relief. Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu |
