News Coffee House to help unwind RHA, Honors College host gathering to promote relaxation by Kelsie Hahn
Music, coffee and relaxation are the order of the evening for Coffee House on Friday, an event co-sponsored by the Resident Hall Association and the Honors College as the culmination of Resident Appreciation Week. The event, to be held from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Oberholtzer Ballroom and rooftop, will feature live music, free food and a chance to socialize. "We just wanted to have an event where everybody could relax, listen to music, and enjoy," Vice President 2 of Social Events for RHA Sharina Lofflad said. "Just bring the community together." Two bands, Sky Blue 27 and a Scottish folk band Fnord, will play from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. After the concert, open mike sessions will begin for anyone to perform, in groups or individually. Sign up sheets for specific time slots are available, but walk-ons will be welcomed if time allows. In conjunction with the music, students will also be able to enjoy free coffee, snacks and provided board games. A similar Coffee House event was held last semester. "We're going to start a tradition, every semester," Lofflad said. Also, RHA plans to hold another get-together during or before finals to give students a chance to de-stress, though the plans are still to be finalized. More information on Coffee House is available at
the RHA office at (713) 743-6069.
