News Prizes offered for student opinions Vending Services plans to enter
respondents in drawing
by Casey Wooten
Students shopping for a new bike for the summer may catch a lucky break if they take a survey on campus vending machines for the University's Vending Services Department. Participating students are entered to win a drawing for either a Dasani mountain bike, or, for second prize, a $100 American Express gift card. The Vending Services Department, which is responsible for maintaining the soft drink, snack and ice cream vending machines on campus, commissioned the survey to get a better understanding of the needs of students. "We're really trying to get a feel for the campus to see what we can accommodate," Cora Day, manager of Vending Services, said. "We want to understand what additional services we can provide to the campus." The survey, which can be found at www.survey.uh.edu, is in four parts, and takes around 15 minutes to complete. Questions range from the reliability of the vending machines, to what new products students would like to see sold in them. Survey-takers can weigh in on suggested new products such as pens and pencils, blue books and phone cards. After going to the Web site, students can log onto the survey by inputting their ISO number, better known as the long ID number on their Cougar 1Cards. The winners of the prizes provided by Canteen Inc., who serves both fresh and frozen food in the vending machines, will be announced May 10 via e-mail. The Student Fee Advisory Committee offers a second survey on the same Web site. This bi-annual survey focuses on broader questions like the quality of classrooms, parking and student services and is used in allocating funds obtained from student fees. Those participating in the student satisfaction survey are also entered into a drawing for one of two 60-gigabyte Apple iPods or one of three $150 gift certificates to the university bookstore, said Patrick Daniel, Director of Learning Assessment. For more information on either the surveys or the
drawings, contact Patrick Daniel of the Learning Assessment Department
