Cruise isn't worth the price of admission

Forbes' annual "Celebrity 100 Power List," which ranks famous people based on earnings and buzz, ranked Tom Cruise at No. 1, The Associated Press reported. If Cruise is the most powerful among us, what is the world coming to? Watch out, world, Scientology may soon be the dominant religion on the planet.

Apparently, making a jerk of yourself on national television by jumping on couches and dismissing psychiatry as a "bogus" practice makes you one of the most powerful people not only in America but in the rest of the world as well. Cruise, with $67 million in earnings last year, ranks higher than Oprah Winfrey, who does far more good for the world than anything Cruise could ever accomplish.

Winfrey raises money for charity and donates her time to those in need among other altruistic activities. Cruise, on the other hand, spends more time insulting anyone he feels might even marginally disagree with him or his life choices.

Even Steven Spielberg, who has made such influential films such as Schindler's List, ranked lower than crazy Cruise, a man whose filmography includes three Mission Impossible installments that didn't exactly tackle the world's most significant issues.

Cruise, part of Hollywood's elite, should take cues from No. 35, Angelina Jolie, who has contributed much to the world in her efforts as the goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Jolie, with all of the publicity she gained from her relationship with Brad Pitt, should have ranked far higher what with the numerous supermarket tabloids her beautiful mug has graced in the past year.

Cruise has contributed much to the world this past year with his attacks on pretty much everyone and everything under the sun. South Park, a show that pokes fun at every race, religion and group you can think of, even bowed down to the all-mighty Cruise when it pulled a controversial episode about Scientology from its line up.

The world is in for a big disappointment if its most powerful person is a man who goes by the name TomKat.
