Life & Arts You shall not pass, Corridor Bottoms Up Sarah Tressler The Corridor, one of the latest clubs to open in the Midtown/downtown area, is in desperate need of some help -- or a bulldozer. This teeny excuse for a nightclub has left me shaking my head in disappointment. The word "corridor" conjures an image of a dim, narrow space through which one must pass to gain access to an intended destination. You typically wouldn't hang out for extended periods of time in a corridor, and it usually isn't a good place to invite your pals for a raging good time. Unfortunately, The Corridor lives up to its namesake in terms of size, light and breathable air. I firmly believe that a crowd can make or break a club, but even the presence of a decent crowd might not save this place. The standard club-goers on the scene rotation were in attendance for the club's grand opening, and more than one complaint was heard coming from the trendily-dressed patrons. Perhaps it was because no one wants to get pit stains on a D&G t-shirt. The air conditioner seemed woefully inadequate on opening night, making the crowded space stiflingly hot and humid. Heavy black window drapes and low ceilings didn't help the situation. Claustrophobics should definitely steer clear of this steamy little box. There is only one bar that is manned by a couple of harried bartenders trying to tend to the dehydrated and semi-sober as fast as they can. A few hi-top tables are situated off the sides and in the corners, so you can at least take a seat while you wait for that sweaty guy you just met to bring you an apple martini. The VIP area is barely worth mentioning. It's a cordoned-off space right next to the dance floor that doesn't feel very "important." VIP is much more interesting when it involves a space that makes it difficult to see who's inside. Ultimately, the crowds will see Corridor as what corridors are meant for: an area to pass through on your way to where you are really going -- which will be anywhere but here.
The Corridor 3704 Fannin St. Verdict: I give this place a capital S -- for sucks.
