Report card ready for a long vacation

The last Friday of the semester brings the last report card of the semester. The question is, are you really still on campus?

Phallic guerrilla art: __

By definition, guerrilla art is illegal, though it can make a strong social statement. Banksy, a British guerrilla artist, made a name for himself through stenciling his artwork in urban areas. He garnered international media attention in March, however, when he covertly installed some of his work in New York's Museum of Modern Art and the British Museum, among other locations. Banksy's actions served as a controversial commentary on populism in the art world.

The University got a brief taste of guerrilla art Thursday when an art student placed several ceramic phalluses around campus. The tactic is an interesting one and has the power to grab the attention of the entire campus. That power could either be used to say something important or something frivolous and egotistical. The category Thursday's artist falls into isn't immediately clear -- that's up to the individual to determine.

Enrollment trends: A

Though enrollment numbers may not be increasing at UH, more transfer and international students are coming to the University, and the average test scores of incoming freshmen are on the rise.

Higher test scores for incoming freshmen shows more students are seeing the University not as a simply a convenient, less expensive alternative to other colleges, but a desirable place to earn a degree. A big part of that is The Honors College, and the faculty and staff there deserve recognition for making it a source of pride for the UH community.

Men's basketball: A

Tom Penders and Co. proved they had the talent to beat the best when they knocked off then Associated Press No. 25-ranked LSU. Now the Cougars, who Yahoo! Sports calls "intriguing" (intrigue this, Internet), will face No. 15 Arizona at 6 p.m. Saturday in Hofheinz Pavilion. If you're even slightly interested in basketball, come out this weekend and support the team -- fan presence has the power to decide games.
