New garage a welcome addition to campus It's hard to understand why people are getting so worked up about nuclear testing in Iran or the controversy surrounding cowboy love when there's a much more important story that's been in the making for months: UH has a new parking garage. If the 1,000 extra spaces the garage will bring to campus help the parking problem as much as expected, life will get a little easier for commuter students, faculty and staff. Having difficulty finding a parking space isn't the end of the world, but sweaty and irritable is not the best way to start one's day. In addition, the shops that will eventually occupy the retail spaces in the facility could keep students on campus after their classes are over. There are already a number of food and entertainment options at various locations on campus, but the garage shops should add a new twist to the existing group of establishments. The garage is just one example of how UH is improving. At its core, a university should be judged by the value of the education it offers. The primary focus should be on attracting the top-flight faculty and providing the resources for groundbreaking research. But the quality of a campus' facilities, as well as its physical appearance, plays a role in how people perceive it. Keep us in the loop A college newspaper has a responsibility to keep its school informed about what happens on campus. For a university as large as ours, that can be a difficult task, especially when all the paper's editors and writers also have class to worry about. That's why we need your help. Newsworthy events don't exclusively happen in public view. If you think something worth covering is going on, let us know. It doesn't matter if it's a potential controversy or a human interest story — if you think it's worth reading about, don't hesitate to contact us.
