The Epsilon Lambda chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is hosting a series of events as part of its "Think Pink Week" today through Friday.

"A lot of the events are geared toward useful things (students) can use on campus, such as the financial aid session and cooking program," Brandi Epps, education senior and correspondent secretary for the sorority said.

Its first event entitled "Get Money" at 7 p.m. today, in the University Center Bayou City Room, will feature Financial Aid Advisor Rodney Jackson. He will inform students how to get the most out of the money they have while in college.

Students will learn how to cook a healthy meal during a cooking lesson that will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Cullen Oaks Community Center.

The sorority encourages students to join them for lunch at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the UC food court. Also Wednesday, "Medicine Cabinet," a seminar about feminine hygiene and sexually transmitted diseases will be held at 7 p.m. in the UC Bluebonnet Room.

"We'll talk about STDs and its warning signs," finance senior and sorority vice president Kim Tanner said.

Students who attend the seminar will watch clips of certain films and the sorority will lead a discussion about the content.

The chapter will end its week with "Roll Bounce: An evening of fun," at th e Almeda Skating Rink. Students can meet the group at 6:30 p.m. in front of the UC steps.

"This week really gives us an opportunity to interact with (prospective members)," Epps said.

The sorority is also preparing for its annual Mr. Pink and Green pageant.

All males interested in competing in the pageant, which will include categories such as talent, question -and-answer, swimwear, and casual and evening wear, are welcome to attend the information meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Cullen Oaks Community Center.

The pageant is scheduled for April 20 in the UC Houston Room.
