Super XL, while not sexy, will entertain

Super Fan

Seth Mintz

Counting down to Feb. 5, there will be no stories about malcontents and distractions such as Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Drew Rosenhaus. We won't see some of football's biggest stars like Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Michael Vick. There will finally be a day when nobody cares about who the Texans will draft.

That's not even the best news. Football fans will get to witness what should be an amazing game by the Pittsburg Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks thanks to their stunning wins over Denver and Carolina.

There will most likely be many people complaining about these two teams playing in football's biggest game. This is not the sexy match-up that most people wanted. Not many casual fans, or big-time fans, will be able to name most of the players on these two teams. In the end, trust me, you will be very happy about this game.

Match-ups like the one we will witness in Super Bowl XL are good for the NFL as well as the fans. People who do not regularly get to see these two teams will be very impressed. The Steelers and Seahawks play football the right way. They are teams in every sense of the word. The Seahawks and Steelers might not be the sexiest teams to watch, but they are the best teams, period.

Two of the NFL's best head coaches, Bill Cowher and Mike Holmgren, lead the Steelers and Seahawks, respectively. This year's NFL MVP Shaun Alexander will be running against the vaunted Steelers defense. Ben Roethlisberger, who is quickly becoming one of the truly elite quarterbacks in football, will be front and center for the Steelers. Same goes for Seattle's QB Matt Hasselbeck, who has blossomed into a star.

Above all else, fans will get to see two teams play exciting defense. You read correctly -- exciting defense. Led by rookie linebacker Lofa Tatupu and defensive tackles Marcus Tubbs and Rocky Bernard, Seattle has a dominant play-making defense that can change the outcome of a game. The Seahawks also led the NFL in sacks this year.

The Steelers' defense, led by Troy Polamalu and Joey Porter, should have fans cheering loudly. The Steelers' defense has destroyed three top-tier quarterbacks they have faced (Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning and Jake Plummer) and can quickly change the pace of a game with their speed and big hits.

It's good for sports to see the teams that play the games the right way make it to the big games. Sports do not always have to be about the dynasties. Who wants to watch the same teams and players year after year? And who doesn't love the underdog story? The Seahawks and Steelers exemplify the term underdog, and their greatness has long been ignored until now.

No one should complain about this game. This Super Bowl should be one of the best ever. With these two teams playing, it will truly be Super Sunday this year.
