Sports Houston heads to Idaho to face accomplished Boise State UH will face Broncos after coming off victories against Texas, Rice by BEN GEGENHEIMER
The UH track and field team will make the long trip to Boise, Idaho this weekend to compete in the Boise Invitational. The frigid weather of the Northwest should be of no concern, as the meet will be held on a 200-meter banked track inside Jackson's Indoor Track on the Boise State campus. The Cougars did well in last weekend's Leonard Hilton Memorial, in which they competed against The University of Texas and Rice. Junior Ebonie Floyd won the 200-meter race at Yeoman Fieldhouse, clocking in at 24.29 seconds. UH also claimed victory in the 4x400-meter and the distance medley relays. Last weekend, Boise State competed in the Hampton Inn and Suites Classic at the Idaho Sports Complex. The Bronco women won four events, including Nataucha Lowry's victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.59 seconds. The Bronco men claimed victory in nine events and were led by senior Mattias Jons, who won the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 69 feet, 7 inches. With his throw, Jons broke his own school record and surpassed the automatic qualifying standard for this year's NCAA National Championships. As a result, the Sweden native was named the Western Athletic Conference's XBox Live men's athlete of the week for the third time in his career. His record-setting throw is the fourth-best collegiate mark in the country this year. The Cougars will compete Friday and Saturday before
returning to Houston.
