News Three vacant positions filled Assembly concluded with senators elected, election days chosen by JEB SCHNEIDER
The Student Government Association called a special meeting Tuesday night in the University Center Underground to nominate three new Senators and vote on the election calendar for the coming elections. SGA President David Williams presented three candidates nominated for open Senate seats: Joseph Maurer C.L.A.S.S. position 4, Mujan Noroozian Natural Sciences and Mathematics position 2 and Samuel Dike C.L.A.S.S. position 3. After an up and down vote without any abstentions the candidates were unanimously approved as Senators. "I want to thank everyone for nominating me," Dike said. "And I look forward to working with everyone on the SGA." The president reported two election commissioners had resigned. A Feb. 8 deadline was set to replace the commissioners. After approval of the budget at the regular SGA meeting last week, the spring election calendar was voted on and also unanimously approved. Students may pick up filing applications beginning Monday in the SGA offices in the UC Underground, room 57. The deadline for turning in the applications is 5 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 22 in the SGA offices. The ballot is to be finalized by March 2. The following day all candidates must present any marketing items and financial disclosures to be approved by the election commissioners. The general election day is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. March 8 and will conclude at 8 p.m. March 9. Ballots and more information are available at www.studentelection.uh.edu. Election results will be announced and posted by noon March 10 in the World Affairs Lounge in the UC Underground. If a recount is necessary, it will be completed by 5 p.m. the same day. In the event of a tie a special election will be
held after Spring Break March 22 and 23.
