Disturbed gives fans what they want

Heavy-metal rock band gets concertgoers on their feet, doing some junk with their hands

Disturbed rolled into a sold out Verizon Wireless Theater on Friday.

Like most people, I hadn't heard of opening bands Corrosion of Conformity and Bloodsimple, so I came right after they finished their sets. Unfortunately for me though, some concertgoers said the bands were pretty good.

Now I'll be the first to say that I'm not an avid hard rock metal fan. I was expecting not to have a good time. I expected to hear deep throaty, screaming music and to be surrounded by tons of freaks and weirdos all decked out in black.

The music was hardcore, but I understood every word. They actually sang many songs I knew and liked. As far as the crowd went, it was very chill and laid back, although I was probably the most colorfully dressed person there.

Right before the show started, the audience members stomped their feet and shook their seats as hard as they could in an uproar of excitement enticing the band to come out. As the lights flickered up, Disturbed rushed the stage absorbing all the exhilaration of the fans and throwing it back at them.

The atmosphere was so energetic with the lights, the sound, the band and the fans all mimicking each other in unison to make one awesome show.

The man on my right sang along as loud as he could to every song he knew. To my left was a middle-aged woman who brought her son to what was probably his first concert. She rocked out as hard as she could with her midriff top and studded belt, swinging her hair as hard and fast as she could to the music.

Every so often, lead singer David Draiman would take a moment to tell the audience members to get up and raise their devil horns in the air. The audience listened to every word he said. This one man had full control of every single person in that arena. There was not one person in there that wasn't standing or that didn't have their devil horns in the air.
