Life & Arts Fitz's needs to change its tune Stay Sick Jason Gagnon I've been thrown out of plenty of clubs and bars in my time for all sorts of reasons, but I had never been banned from one until this week. I am no longer allowed in Fitzgerald's. Before I explain why, let me give you a brief history of my relationship with the Heights venue. I first went there when I was 12, worked there off and on since I was 15 or 16 (during the glory days of the club when it was run by Robbie Cool and Daniza Villarreal), and the bar was my favorite haunt in the city for last decade. Fitzgerald's used to be a large part of my life. Now that is all over, and I could really care less because of pure, unrefined hatred for the owner, Ms. Sarah Fitzgerald. I used to run a movie night at the bar on Tuesday nights until a month ago when Sarah decided to take it over without notice and switch the format from horror and cult movies to chick flicks. Upon learning this, I decided to post some crude, tasteless and, if I may say, hilarious bulletins about the situation on MySpace.com, and those are the reasons I am no longer welcome in the club. I understand she was upset -- hey, I insulted her -- but what makes this so amusing is the fact that she got upset over something I posted on MySpace. That is just so retarded. I accept full responsibility for my actions, but if you are the owner of a legendary music venue and you have the time and energy to spend getting pissed off about something on an Internet friend site, then I guess your business must really be going down the tubes. Desperation is a stinky perfume, and getting all agro about some online smack- talk makes you smell like you work in a sewage plant. It's no secret that Fitzgerald's is nowhere near the landmark it used to be, but this should tell you things aren't going the right way for Ms. Fitz. I want to close by stating that I have no problems with the staff who run the club. I love them all and have been friends with them for years and truly consider them to be family. But I am truly sickened by the behavior and rationale exhibited by that woman named Sarah. Let me give you some advice, honey: We're getting a House of Blues in town in a couple of years, so sell while you still can. Send comments to dcshobiz@mail.uh.edu |
