After a solid performance last weekend at the Houston Track and Field Indoor Classic, the track and field squad will travel to New Mexico to compete in the Albuquerque Invitational.

The University of New Mexico will host the meet with 13 teams participating. The field includes the eighth-ranked Arizona State women and two-time defending NCAA Division II men's champion Abilene Christian. As the reigning Conference USA men's and women's champions, UH is considered one of the top teams competing.

Junior Carey Lacour was awarded Athlete of the Week by Conference USA after his record-setting time Saturday.

As result of his record-setting performance last weekend, UH junior sprinter Carey LaCour was named C-USA Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. In his first 400-meter competition of the season, the Humble High School product set a meet record with a winning time of 47.57. LaCour's time provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Over 600 athletes are registered to compete in the Albuquerque Invitational. According to Trackwire.com's rankings, five nationally ranked athletes will participate, including No. 6-ranked New Mexico pole vaulter Derek Makel.

The women's pole vault will also feature pole vaulter April Kubishta of ASU, who is ranked fifth.

The meet will be start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and end at about 3:30 p.m.
