News SFAC begins hearings today Committee deals with energy prices, funds student organizations by AMY NORRIS
The Student Fees Advisory Committee meets in the University Center Bluebonnet Room today to discuss how to allocate the student fees that help fund organizations on campus. Vice President of Student Affairs Elwin Lee said the committee plays an essential role in deciding how to fund the University's programs. "The committee is the only one that deals with fees (in which) the students have that type of influence. The chair is always a student. They make recommendations to the president. If the president agrees, it goes straight to the board," Lee said. The Student Government Association and the president of the University appoint the student chairperson to the committee. T he SFAC will have to deal with the rising energy costs that affect most organizations. Lee said that there have been proposals to establish a utility fee to help organizations cope with this problem. Student fees will increase, but it would be less if each organization tried to deal with energy costs on their own.
