Inept, vain cops hit the beach

Despite recycled gags, Reno's n'er-do-wells slay audience
with humor, vulgarity

by CHRISITAN OCHOA
The Daily Cougar

While bumbling cops have become a cliche in the comedy world, Reno 911!'s finest prove that not only are they incompetent -- they're perverse and narcissistic, too. But their foolish antics are comedic gold -- even if it's the same jokes over and over again.

The Comedy Central hit made its transition to the big screen and its attempts at making a smarter Police Academy, but still parodying Cops were honorable, and were executed to their full potential.

Just like the TV show, Reno 911!: Miami, is loosely based on short skits of police action based on inept decisions.

The gang is invited (because everyone is) to a police convention in Miami. When they arrive on location, they find out they have no credentials and are forced to book rooms in a seedy motel near the beach. But when the convention center is quarantined because of a bio-terrorism act, the rag-tag team is forced to step up to the plate, find the bad guys and protect Dade County.

Chaos continues to run the city, though.

Throughout the rest of the film, the gang spends time running away from crocodiles, exploding whales in inappropriate swimwear, partaking in high-speed golf cart chases and blowing up cars. Their intentions are noble when they occasionally respond to emergency calls, but citizens were better off fending for themselves.

The film is filled to the brim with vulgarity, and will undoubtedly offend someone. Not only that, it has a scatterbrained nature that only fans would appreciate, such as Lt. Jim Dangle's (Thomas Lennon) need to down a bottle of alcohol before doing Deputy Trudy Wiegel (Kerry Kenney-Silver) a huge favor.

The film will please everyone's naughty and subversive side, no matter how hard they try to abstain from laughing at slap-stick humor.
