Dr. Dre to cure album anticipation

Music Notes

Eli Jabbe

Dr. Dre, the veteran musician who has made memorable music for decades, will soon put an end to the stirring anticipation surrounding his new release.

During a recent interview on Los Angeles radio station Power 106 FM the good doctor noted that Detox, his first album since 1999, will hit shelves in 2007.

Dre is known for long delays between albums: his classic debut The Chronic was released in 1992 but didn't see a sequel until 1999's 2001 release. However, Dre has made his presence known over the years by producing a wide range of songs for everyone from Gwen Stefani to The Firm. He also managed to make an impact on several 2006 LPs by producing the majority of Busta Rhymes' The Big Bang and mixing and producing most songs on Jay-Z's Kingdom Come.

The anticipation for Detox will soon be gone: just like Britney Spears' hair. The singer recently decided to shave off all of her hair and then wear a wig, just before re-entering rehab.

On another note, The Wu-Tang Clan and Van Halen, some of the most influential groups in music history, are planning reunions.

Though these two groups have made impressive music in the past, they've been relatively quiet in recent times. But that is about to change. Though the details are hazy at this point, Van Halen is planning 40 tour dates that will reunite all of the members.

Fans can also look forward to Wu-Tang's new release. 8 Diagram should prove worthy this summer as it's the first album the group has recorded together in quite some time.

"People want something that gives them an adrenaline rush. We're here to supply that fix … and bring in a wave of energy that has lately dissipated," The RZA, Wu-Tang producer and spokesman, said.

Wu-Tang members Method Man and Ghostface have released albums in recent years and The RZA has scored movies such as the Kill Bill series. The group's album will include a tribute that features an unreleased performance by legendary artist and former member Ol' Dirty Bastard, who died in 2004.
