News Walk to benefit local AIDS charities Cougar News Services Houston citizens will be hitting the streets Sunday for a 5K walk to raise funds for HIV/AIDS research as part of AIDS Walk Houston in Sam Houston Park in downtown. The event is being sponsored by Chevron and promoters hope to raise $1 million benefiting the AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. and Houston-area HIV/AIDS service organization. "In Houston, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has reached alarming rates; it is estimated one in 90 Houstonians is HIV-positive and every eight hours someone new contracts the virus," AFH Chief Executive Officer Kelly McCann said in a release. Check-in for the event begins at 8 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. Donations can be made to the event online at www.aidswalkhouston.com. The recommended minimum donation is $25. Parking at the event is courtesy of Brookfield Properties
and Central Parking on a first come, first served basis.
