Camps Crime Report

The following is a partial report of campus crime between March 8 and Wednesday. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event's location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600. 

Possession of marijuana: 1:40 a.m. March 8, Moody Towers -- During an investigation of a loud noise complaint, a student was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The student was arrested and released to Harris County jail. The student was also issued Student Life and Residential Life Referrals. Occurred at 1:40 a.m. March 8.

Theft: 10:15 a.m. March 8, Moores School of Music -- A student complainant reported that someone removed her unattended and unsecured purse from a shelf in the women's rest room of Moores School of Music. There are no suspects at this time. Occurred between 10:02 and 10:03 a.m. March 8.

Burglary of a motor vehicle: 12:42 p.m. March 8, Lot 1A -- A student reported that someone went into his secured vehicle and stole his wallet, CDs and $300. There are no witnesses or suspects and an investigation is ongoing. Occurred between 9:15 p.m. March 7 and 12:30 a.m. March 8.

Theft: 3 p.m. March 8, Bayou Oaks Apartments -- A student reported that someone stole her unattended and unsecured purse and its contents. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time. Occurred between 12:30 and 2:30 a.m. March 8.

Criminal mischief: 4:37 p.m. March 8, Lot 16B -- A student reported that someone damaged the window to his vehicle by writing on it with a marker. There are no suspects. Occurred at 3:54 p.m. March 8..

Obscene display or distribution: 2:28 p.m. March 8, M.D. Anderson Library -- A visitor was observed viewing pornographic images on a library computer. The visitor was arrested and issued a Harris County citation. Occurred between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. March 8.

Burglary of a motor vehicle: 6:10 p.m. March 8, Lot 1A -- A student reported that someone forcibly entered her secured vehicle by breaking the rear window and stole her purse containing a digital camera. Occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. March 8.

Criminal trespass: 12:31 a.m. March 9, Bayou Oaks Apartments -- A student was issued a Harris County citation and Student Life Referral for criminal trespass. The student had been issued a criminal trespass warning for Bayou Oaks after being evicted from the property. The student was observed and located in a Bayou Oaks apartment. Occurred at 12:29 a.m. March 9.

Public intoxication: 1:09 a.m. March 9, Lot 18A -- A UH student was observed walking through Lot 18A and was found to be intoxicated. The student was determined to be a danger to himself and others and arrested for public intoxication. The student was taken to Ben Taub Hospital for medical treatment and later released. The student was also issued a Student Life Referral. Occurred at 1:09 a.m. March 9.

Disorderly conduct: 2:44 a.m. March 9, Bayou Oaks Apartments -- The residential adviser for Bayou Oaks reported that a townhouse was not in compliance with Residential Life and Housing regulations after being requested to be quiet three times. Students were issued Student Life and Residential Life Referrals. Occurred at 2:44 a.m. March 9.

Evading arrest: 3:26 a.m. March 9, Lot 1A -- A white, four-door Chevrolet Impala, occupied by four unknown males, fled from an officer as the officer attempted to make contact with them. Occurred at 3:26 a.m. March 9.

Harassment: 1:58 p.m. March 9, McElhinney Hall -- An alumna reported she received several harassing phone calls from a student worker. The phone calls may have originated from the UH call center located in McElhinney Hall. Occurred between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. March 8.

Criminal mischief: 5:54 p.m. March 9, M.D. Anderson Library -- A UH staff member reported graffiti on the Brown Wing elevator door. There are no suspects or witnesses. Occurred sometime before 6:15 p.m. March 9.

Burglary of a building or habitation: 3:08 p.m. March 11, Cambridge Oaks Apartments -- Two UH students reported the burglary of their unattended and secured apartment. An investigation is under way. Occurred between 2:30 p.m. March 10 and 2:30 a.m. March 11.

Warrants: 8:49 a.m. March 13, Elgin and Tierwester -- A UH officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration. The driver had outstanding traffic warrants from Webster. The visitor was released to the custody of the Webster Police Department. Occurred between 8:30 and 9 a.m. March 13.

Damage to property: 5:46 p.m. Wednesday, Cougar Place Apartments -- A UH tree was struck by lightning, causing the tree to fall on power lines. The power poles supporting the power line also fell, leaving live power lines on the ground. Power was lost to Robertson Stadium, Cougar Place and surrounding parking areas. There were no reported injuries during the event. Occurred at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
