Opinion
Letters to the Editor Column successfully conveyed often-overlooked economic implications of nationalized health care To the editor: I enjoyed Monica Granger's column "Health care benefits from free market" (Monday, Opinion) that supported the continued privatization of health care. Her opinion was economically objective and not contingent upon political whims. People fail to consider the true economic effects of health care nationalization because of the implications of a private system. Students, in particular, assume that health care privatization is inherently bad and only advantageous to a small minority of the population because of its association with businesses. They don't understand what Granger explained so eloquently in her piece, that the underlying function of any market system is the relationship between supply and demand. My stepbrother introduced me to the Ludwig von Mises Web site Granger mentioned about 2 years ago. I receive a daily e-mail reading and regularly browse the site for articles that support my studies. Once, I went as far as using an article titled "How sweat shops help the poor" for an international business discussion. The room blew up. Granger should keep up the good work. She's got one fan out there. Forrest Kroschel
