Reggae rock peppers up Friday night of the break

Eclectic opening acts hyped up the crowd
before the Hawaiian rockers took stage

The unique sounds of reggae rock from Hawaii natives Pepper filled the Houston air Friday night until the early hours of dawn and left concertgoers more than satisfied.

Pepper's performance was heavy with older songs from their discography as well as newer hits such as "Your Face." The crowd energetically sang along to all of the songs, and guitarist/vocalist Kaleo Wassman continuously exclaimed to the rowdy crowd: "You're the best." With the level of excitement the Houston crowd showed for the reggae-rock band, there's no doubt that the feeling was mutual. The last song performed was unforgettable. Pepper with its opening acts -- Splinta, the Supervillians and The Mad Caddies -- appeared on stage together, collaborating with each other without any mistakes.

After the show, the vocalist/guitarist from Supervillians, Skart, a Florida native, explained that "I love Texas, it reminds me of home." And with the show ending around 1 a.m., there's no doubt that the Houston crowd loved the band, too.

Splinta started the show and began playing Black Rob's hit "Whoa." The choice to use that song was surprising and got the crowd hyped up.

Afterwards, the Supervillians performed a couple of their own songs, and utilized several instruments that one wouldn't typically see be used by a rock band, such as trumpets. Their versatile sound really was impressive. It was when the Supervillains were performing that the crowd was starting to reach its highest level of energy.

The Mad Caddies also performed and seemed popular among many of the fans, as there were quiet a few of them with shirts with the bands name. It seemed like everybody knew the words to the Caddies' songs as well.

Verdict: Nice way to end Spring Break
